Where have you been Sahai ?

Its been quite a long time since I posted something here. I have been into writing movie reviews, narrating some life experiences, talking social, but I cant even remember when did I turn up to blogger last !
Why is it so ? Sahai has been no where since quite a long time now. He's not made any useful contribution to college activities, not been a part of Freed, not been to blogging, not playing cricket and not visiting sector 10 (my favorite timepass place) as well. It seems Sahai has taken a break, break from life. He's been getting calls from various places, for help, for support, for aish, but amazingly he's not answering any of those calls. All this is acceptable but whats worse is that if someone asks "why", he has no answer. That's what hurts me the most.
He's doing what he made his tag line. "Sleeping with open eyes". He never bears unjustice, cannot bear anything going wrong in his surroundings, but since a month, he's been doing exactly that. Yesterday for a change, he did something which made people think that this is HIM. Today I am writing on behalf of him, hope he recovers quickly. He has to become responsible again, starting taking up tasks and all in all fulfill his heart. Let's see how much time does he take to recover. Get well soon Sahai!

Beautiful direction can overcome a weak storyline

Before even entering the theater I knew what would I be feeling at the end of the movie and what would my friends be thinking. Quite obviously I was fascinated by the movie while my friends, barring one, were shouting like anything. That was primarily because of the pace of the movie rather than the movie as a whole.
Gandhi, My Father is a film showing the other side of Gandhi and thus endorsing the fact in which the gen-next believes, Gandhi was not a "mahatma".
The film is a great portrait of a fairly weak storyline which shows Gandhi's eldest son, Harilal, quite a foolish person who always got washed away in the people's rain and ended up making up his life a total failure and in the process losing his wife and kids to poverty.
Though the story has nothing much to be told about, the film deserves much applause for the way it has depicted the Gandhian period. The actors, especially the Gandhi husband and wife have throughout managed to look the age they are actually depicting, right from age 20 to the same number deducted from 100. I must mention the make up artistes have done a remarkably wonderful job. Full marks to them for making people look like they should be. While Anil Kapoor makes a significant debut in the film as a director, I would say it would be better if he'd continue as a director only in the industry.

Naya Daur.....really something's new !

If Lagaan had your heart beats rolling over then this one quite nearly does it again. Or in fact I should say this one did it much before than Lagaan did. If Lagaan showed an ambitious young lad not ready to pay unnecessary lagaan or part away with his land then Dilip Kumar refused to part away with his way of earning. Both the leads showed the Gaonwalahs to revolt against the suppressing, the British in one case and the cruel Jeevan, a shrewd businessman,in the older version.
Well the movie looks truly awesome in colour and if you have even little knowledge of how it is done, then I guess you can understand that it took 3 years and 3 crores of rupees to bring it into the present format of course it also includes the cost of converting the music it into the Dolby surround sound. I guess it might be the first color old movie which does not bear the tag line "In Eastman Colour" and having the caption in dolby digital surround sound. And since the songs were very good and never seem like getting old, it was worth spending 150 bucks and watching the movie with my parents.
Well the basic point made is that technology is being used in India, with some seriously good amount of hard work put in. Only thing is that it does not reap in the benefits it should earn. Let's see if it picks up sometime later. While I moved out of the theater I had only one question in mind, "What would be the next technology that we would see being implemented and then movies of our generation being re-produced with, maybe 3-d effects, who knows sometime 25 years from now I would be watching Dhoom-2 again with Hrithik in some 3-d stunts".

Do you wanna partner ??....Yes, I do want..

Well a David Dhawan movie after such a long time with his favourite Govinda and Salman meant it all the way that the film would be worth a watch atleast. And thats what iy proved to be. Though never had I thought that I would be shelling out and hundred and twenty bucks for a Govinda movie but I thought the other way round of doing it for the other two or infact 4 I should say, that includes David, Salman and the two beautiful ladies who have looked even more marvellous than ever before. Well after seeing Katrina in Namastey London I had thought that she can't look better than this, and yes she hasn't looked better but yes she's no less also. As far as the other lady is concerned I must say if anyone missed the Miss Universe paegent when she won then you have another chance of doing so. Yes Lara has looked as gorgeous as she looked at the title night. The best thing about her was that if she looked damn sexy in the western clothes then she looked a perfect dreamwife in the Indian outfits. I had always been admiring her beauty especially in the Indian clothes but recently day after day it seems she's grown even more amazing.
Well before I start sailing in her praise I must admit the movie is full of nonsense comedy, a thing which we've missed from some time now. It's for us to put our mind away and stop thinking and just laugh for a little over two hour movie. Though Govinda, as usual, has over-reacted in most scenes but I guess that's what he does best and so no complains about it. Salman is busy showing of his well toned body, probably he's done some extra exercises for this one but he manages to carry it of very well on his spanky cars and the bikes too. And one thing more one could note in him was his much improved dance, though he's thanked Govinda for it but yes it seems Salman has got away with those lazy dances and performed his steps very well. Rajpal Yadav, true to expectations, has done some idiotic stuff and well supported by the background music as well. I you remember the Fanaa kid, then there's news that he's done a cute job once again, helping both the men get their or as they said, "My love".
Getting back to ladies, since Bollywood includes them for the song and dance numbers most of the time, Katrina's been there for that only. Lara has been asked to show some of her acting skills, which ofcourse she's done to perfection. Don't forget to take a look at her expressions especially.
I think actions speek louder than words so its better to watch the movie for yourself rather than wasting your time reading this. Go, find your partner !!!

The ride of my life...courtesy Yo-Bikes

It was a bright sunny day and I was busy sleeping when Rahul gave me a wake up call and for the thrid sunday in a row promised to meet in the evening. The last two sundays he had kept me waiting on and on so this time I was in my usual ghar wala attire, calmly watching Guru, for the fifth time, with my parents when suddenly I heard the doorbell. It was five in the evening and I was almost shocked to see Rahul at my gate. The shock was because of two things, primarily because he was there, finally, and secondly because he was complete one hour before time. Anyways, I welcomed him with as much surprise as with happiness.
He even made a call to Maddy, who had to accompany us, from my house trying to prove that he should be on time at his place unless Amit, who was to meet us nearby, delayed us. After having tea etc when we thought of moving, you could hear cries of Oh Rahul......as he had lost the keys again, not a big deal for him as he was quite accustomed to it. Fortunately or unfortunately, he had left the keys in his bike itself, as we figured out later. I had the least of hints of which bike he had got. It was when we were searching for the keys then he told me that he had got a Yo-Bike. On enquiring, I was told that it was a battery operated two wheeler. "Yaar, fir ye to ye badi risky hai yar", was the first thing I uttered on hearing. Then he went on detailing its qualities, "it gets full charged in a night's span and then runs for 75 kilometres at a stretch, and in Kanpur you can't drive more than that in a day, so its good enough and not at all risky". "Hmm, in that case thik hai", I said. "Aur han tum daro mat kyonki main abhi bhi usse charge par laga kar aaya hu", he said proudly.
When I reached downstairs, I broke out into an ocean of laughter as I saw the bike. The manufacturers had forgot mentioning that it was meant for a single person only. I was still wondering how could it carry 160 kgs, as Rahul went on in continuation singing praises for the bike. He confirmed this as he told me that, he and his father had made a ride on it for quite a long distance the previous night, right from Panki to Barra, Kanpurites can figure the distance, crossing even a bridge. He asked me to sit to which I responded "Abe start to karo " and when he said "abe start hai, baitho", he had me in total amazement. There was absolutely no noise. Anyways as I sat, he pulled the accelerator and the bike infact the Yo-Bike moved, leaving me completely bedazzled. It attained a speed of 35 kph in no time but when its speed stopped increasing I put up the question up for Rahul and he emphatically answered "Are ye iski max speed hai". And all I could say was "Waaaaaaaaah".
Then we met Amit and I thought of moving onto his bike, a new Discover, but Rahul asked me to be with him instead. I fulfilled his wish and by the time we reached Maddy's place I said only one thing to him, "Rahul, ye bike lane ki himmat tum hi kar sakte ho", and I seriously meant that. We picked up Maddy from his place and then went to where Rahul had promised us to take, since a month, the Mascar Ghats. Maddy and Amit had never been there, so Rahul asked them to follow him, much to their embarassment. It was my second visit to the place, the first being on the previous night itself with Prateek and Yasharth, my school friends. We spent some time there and then planned to go to mall road, hardly 2 km from the ghats to have something, as Rahul was proudly said "maine tum logo ko apni placement treat nahi di hai to aaj wahi samjho", but I had never thought that it would take half an hour to travel such a petite distance.
As soon as we made our way back, at the first turn itself, the bike started to slow down. I got a hint straightaway and I started shouting on the road itself "Abe marva diya yaar". I asked him to switch the light off which increased the speed by a small but considerable amount. I straightaway started firing ....... on Rahul and he again made a proud statement "abe yar battery khatam bhi ho jaye to ye dus ki speed se chalti rehti hai", another false promise which he had made in the bike's praise. We asked Amit to reach the mall road and wait for us. Barely had we travelled one kilometer when I saw a cycle-wallah overtaking us and glaring us right from behind till the time he completely crossed us and in the mean time all I did was..... Laugh like hell. And Rahul, the proud driver had only one sentence on his mouth, "Abe Sahai mat haso be" and said it so sarcastically that anyone's heart could have melted. Then we had a race with a cycle rickshaw carrying three passengers, and you won't believe it, we won ! A little further and we started hearing voices which said, "There should be more battery, there should be more battery", coming from the bike itself. And then it happened, the rickshaw we had defeated earlier, was now overtaking us and this time the three guys travelling on it were laughing like hell. I accompanied them and this time even Rahul didn't have any other option but to ..... L.A.U.G.H. And we burst into a huge roar of laughter on the road itself.
The battery had virtually died when we reached phoolbagh and now I got off the bike and started walking along side Rahul, yeah he was driving and me walking. I guess you can understand at what rocket speed Rahul must be driving. He was doing for what he's well known in hostel, driving in SLOW MOTION (his nickname in hostel). We reached a restaurant, me reaching first, hehe, not because of his speed but because he had to wait at the red light where, I must appreciate the guy for his guts, he emphatically explanied the qualities of Yo-Byke to onlookers who couldn't resist asking him "yar tumhari bike me engine kahan hai ?".
We had a great treat from Rahul at the restaurant, the only good thing that had happened that evening. And then we decided to move. First it was decided to place his bike at a nearby place, Amit's relative's home, but on realizing the parking there did not have a charging point we had no option but to take it along. Rahul confidently said it would reach Maddy's place easily, another false statement Rahul had made that night. So it was decided that Rahul should leave with Amit and me and Maddy would drive his bike to Maddy's home. We were just being Rahul's good friend at that moment. While they left in a flash, it took us almost half an hour to cover a distance of just over a kilometre and reach bada chauraha. It was there we realized that it was counting its last breadths and refused to move. First we thought of charging it at some place but, as expected, no shopkeeper allowed us to do so, even at the cost of cold-drinks that too two in number. Then I recalled one more quality Rahul had banked upon. "Abe charging point, petrol pump se zyada asaan hota hai dhundna, har paan ki dukaan par hota hai", to which I had only replied in "abe paan wale kab se bijli ka bill bharne lage? welcome to Kanpur beta, yaha katiya se kaam chalta hai aur mujhe nahi lagta ki koi tumhe charge karne dega".
Now with no one allowing to do so, I made a call to a friend hoping to charge at his place, but later we realized that it wasn't a viable option either as there was no point in dragging the bike and then charging for merely half an hour, as it was already 9.30 by then. So first it was decided that I should leave while Maddy would himself drive as far it would go and then load it on a rickshaw to his place. But then suddenly his mood changed and he made a call to load it there itself. We booked a cycle rickshaw in twenty five rupees after some bargain and after explaining that the bike was actually not more than a cycle as it did not have an engine or petrol tank or anything of that sort. At first he laughed but then agreed to go. We loaded the immaculate Yo-Bike on the rickshaw and then both of us climbed on it from behind. People travelling by rickshaws must have imagined by now how the scene would be. On the way we were stared by many people crossing by which only led to Rahul getting all the abuses he deserved for his karnama that night, but it was when another rickshaw, carrying a couple of laughing guys passed, that Maddy uttered, "Abe has kya rahe ho, jab tumhara bhi Rahul Gupta jaisa koi dost hoga tab samjhoge".

The irony of using a broadband

When I packed my bags from Ghaziabad everyone put up the same question in front of me, “When are you coming back?” When I came home around a month back I was almost sure that I would be doing nothing in these two months time. With a dial up connection I was sure that I would be away from the world of spiders, I am talking about the World Wide Web or the internet as most people would call it. I knew it would be difficult to survive, because for a person who is so addicted to net that he changes his life cycle and lives it according to US standards, staying away from net for three complete months was going to be a huge in fact a Herculean task. I always knew that was impossible. The first day I was here, evening I was out at the cafĂ©, no not the coffee one but the obvious one. Anyways, within a few days I thought that was it and with the help of my sister persuaded my father to shell out 1500 bucks and that too for just a month. My father spends money quite carefully, he simply said if that’s what you really need, then have it. I knew that it was not the ultimate requirement but to survive at home ….. just couldn’t help it too. I went to the sify distributor and came back happily that the next morning I would be back to normal business; little did I know that the coming month was going to be the biggest nightmare of my life.
Two people came to my house, one, the marketing guy and the second whom I assumed to be the technical person. The tech person took out an RJ45 connector from his bad put the wire in it and quite quickly I got the sign reading “Local Area Connection is now connected”. I was glad that this happened so quickly. Then as soon as the, so called technical person, sat on the computer chair and took the mouse in his hand I knew he was having even less knowledge than the girls of my college(not to hurt anyone’s sentiments if by chance you happen to be an RKGIT girl). Within a minute I asked him to move out and let me handle the system. I asked “what do want to do now?, you want to make a new connection ?” “Yes“, he said. And as soon as I opened the “make new connection wizard”, he had a question mark on his face. I knew this was no to be done. Then I came across a paper he was holding and when I saw that, I knew what was to be done. I opened the lan settings and entered the ip address and the dns settings. I said “yahi karna tha na?” happily he said, “haan haan”. Then he gave me a cd to install the sify broadband client. No problems with that. Then he said now you can connect. I connected to the internet but the internet explorer said, “Check your proxy settings” and then without asking him I put in the lan settings which he gave me and then retried. Same answer surprised me. I asked him why that was though I knew that it would be of no use, he said “Aap bhaiya ko call karlo”. He called him and fiddled with his bhaiya for 2 minutes before I took over the phone and told him what I had done and asked him that what port should I use for the proxy server, at first even he was baffled but then he showed great character and proudly said, “aap settings me jakar restore defaults kar dijiye”. Even he knows nothing, I understood in a flash. I tried to use the “direct connection to the internet” and thankfully for me it worked. Without saying anything more I hung up the phone, paid him the requisite amount and said goodbye to him as I was already late for a party, my placement party for my school friends. Hardly realized that this was the worst I made from my father’s money. Before leaving I even took his bhaiya’s number in case I have some problem. Giving me the number he said in a very confident manner, “waise aapko koi dikkat aaegi nahi”.
Later I returned that night and logged in, happily checked my mails, scraps and then went to bed. In the meanwhile I even clicked on to the gtalk icon but it didn’t respond and I said “forget it” and turned my system off.
The next couple of days I saw some operations malfunctioning but I never took it seriously until one day my system refused to start. I knew something was serious and that most probably it’s virus. Tried some ways but couldn’t help it. I tried everything but in the end was left with no other option than formatting my system, thus losing all my data…..really a great blow. Anyways I called the “bhaiya” and told him my misery citing the reason as his network for all the mess. He disagreed saying his network was perfectly fine and that my system was infected. No point in discussing with such people I reconnected and within some hours I found the virus again. That was it. I went to his shop and shouted about his problem. To my surprise he simply denied it again. Then I thought it was of no use, came back, installed Linux and thought that it might work. As expected, it didn’t work. I went to his shop again. This time the bhaiya was not there, a calm, cool looking black person was standing and said in a voice as if he was the owner of the shop, “bhaiya nahi hai kya kaam hai bolo”. Well, I said, can you tell me how to run the net on Linux? “kya”, “net chalana hai ? to ye kholo”, opened in a browser the page where the sify software download was available and pointed me to the line mentioning the client for windows. I said, “maine ye wala kiya hai”, pointing to the Linux client and the response he gave me was not shocking as I had expected this. He proudly said to me, “humne yaha dhai sau (250) connection diye hain, aajtak kisiko is wale ki zarurat nahi padi, aap anokhe ho kya?”. I said “aajtak kisine Linux use nahi kari hogi” , “liee-niks, ye kya hai, main yaha ka network sambhalta hu, sabka kaam is pehle wale se chal jata hai aapka bhi isise chalega”. Next moment I knew that it would my fault if I talked to him any further, so I opted for waiting for the owner, the bhaiya or the distributor. I put up the same question in front of him and as expected even he didn’t know it. But what he did was gave me assurance that he will find out and let me know soon. Its been 3 weeks since then but I haven’t fond the answer. Some people claiming to be sify technical team even had this question fired from me only to give me the same answer, “we’ll find out and let you know soon sir”.
The next problem I faced was within a couple of days only. My system started showing the network cable unplugged. I called him again and he sent his network engineer. First he tried to look for some problem in the system but when he couldn’t find any then he understood it was the connector that was troubling me. Within a few minutes he replaced it and we tried to connect. Then when I tried to connect it asked me to do install an anti virus. That was it. On asking he told me that his bhaiya had accepted that there was virus on his network and now he’s put an anti virus check for each system. My point was proved.
Since then there have been one problem which continues to haunt me apart from a single instance when I tried to login and the client gave the message, “you are already logged in”. Baring that instance, whenever I not online its because of the single problem that my system can’t connect to the gateway server. Too embarrassing, as the ping screen that shows “Request timed out” creates a desire in me to thrash the distributor, the bhaiya as whenever almost 90% of the times when that problem arose, his mobile is switched off and his shop closed. After 8 pm there’s no way I can contact him and more often than not that’s when the problem arises. Sometimes I’ve even tried to call the sify local customer care but they can’t help it either. The reason for the problem is the local network which is loaded with viruses.
All this makes me feel pity on the condition of the technical knowledge of these people. No one knows a single thing and claim that they are network engineers of technical team members. I think the Jagriti technical team which comprised mostly of second year students had more knowledge than these idiots. Forget the people who are using it because they even might not know the fact that the government of India has made it clear that a service can be called a broadband service only if they supply a speed of 256 k bps or more. While the connection I am using is being used by most people here and I guess none might know this clause. But they claim to be using BROADBAND service and are quite happy about it.
Its 15 today and my connection expires on 18. With the great services my distributor has provided I am in no mood to extend his worthy services for another month and spend half of the time abusing him rather than using the net. As far as the bhaiya and his network team is concerned, I had only I thing to say to them after which they could only keep their faces hanging down. I proudly said, “Pehli bar kisi engineer se tumhara pala pada hai

A 2 day star or a real hero ??

Ever since we've heard that nasal "oooo......", the famous track from the movie Ashiq Banaya Aapne there's been no looking back for the man with the cap, Himesh Reshamiya. The immaculate success and his immense popularity has prompted me to write about him and start a sort of debate. Debate because I started to compare him with some of the other well known singers.
I was wondering how many people know Sonu Nigam or that he acted in a film? Yes and that bombed at the box office like anything. He did not dare to act again on screen. He even tried to be a pop singer, hip hop kind but didn't succeed in that either. His songs became famous especially the Deewana tracks but that fame died out. He got a few songs but as time passed on the quality of songs he has got has just gone down. Now no one knows recognizes that "this" song has been sung by sonu.
On the contrary, everyone recognizes Himesh's songs. Everywhere you can hear his songs, be it a passing car, a DJ party or a stationed house, he's everywhere. The latest testimony of the fact that he's a star is the phenomenal success of his movie. Its been declared a smash hit and box office collections have proved that it actually is a hit. What more to say, I wen to watch awarapan last sunday, I must say I wasn't surprised to see that forget awarapan, no tickets were available for the Himesh movie. Though everyone criticized his acting skills but the movie has done awesome business. Most of the people criticize him, saying he's a nasal singer but in the end it his him whom people listen to. So in the end its him as the winner. He has more fans anywhere in the country than anybody else, so isn't he the next star ?
I don't know how many are his critics but his fan following is awesome. I don't say I am a big fan of his but I don't deny that I like most of the songs sung by him. Great tracks and yes namastey london are my favourite. A star is born but let's see if he survives or fades in the dark like sonu nigam or abhijit sawant did .... Its time to say wait and watch....

Wow ! Kimi does it again...

British GP, Brit winner, that's what everyone was expecting and when Lewis Hamilton won the pole position, it only added to the speculation that he's going to take the chequered flag. But Ferrari had some other plans. Not only their strategy make Kimi the the winner, second time in a row but it also proved that its not only the driver who is responsible for the win when the cars are out on the track the team strategies do matter.
As a matter of fact, I must say that I didn't watch the race after the first pit stops but read and heard that it was due to excellent strategy and choice of tyres that made him the winner. Without passing any of the Mclaren's he made the best finisf one can expect.
Not only did he win the race, he did it comprehensively by winning with a margin of 25 seconds which is unassailable on any circuit. Well Ferrari have certainly bounced back but I still feel it would be really difficult to displace Hamilton from the top unless he makes a finish not making it to the podium. Well this year's championship is definitely heading for a great finish. I can't wait for the next race to keep the excitement going.

PS: I am back to original posting, sorry for the last copied post, but I wont be removing it due to some reasons.

Indian Animation and Gaming industry: An insight

The rise of the Animation and Gaming industry in India has been nothing short of meteoric. The segment, driven by significant outsourcing by global customers and a fast growing global market, is offering immense employment potential to India’s Gen Z. At the same time, there is a huge talent shortage within this market, which could impact its future growth. In this issue
of Communique, we look at the Animation and Gaming industry, the business opportunity it throws up and the challenges it faces in terms of requisite, skilled talent.

The global and Indian market: The global animation market was estimated to have touched US$ 59 billion in
2006, with an expected CAGR of around eight per cent over the 2006-2010 period. The market will grow to around US$ 80 billion in 2010. Of this revenue, around 40-50 per cent is attributed to the cost of development, which means that the market for content and related services is estimated at US$ 25-26 billion and forecast to touch
US$ 34 billion by 2010.
A 2007 study by NASSCOM on the Animation and Gaming market has indicated the following:
• The worldwide gaming market stood at US$ 21 billion in 2006 and was expected to grow to US$ 42 billion by 2010 (a CAGR) of 18 per cent over 2006-2010
• The gaming content market (developer’s perspective) touched nearly US$ 7 billion in 2006 and was estimated to cross US$ 13 billion in 2010 (a CAGR of 17 per cent over the 2006-2010 period)
• Within the gaming market, mobile and online gaming were expected to grow the fastest at CAGR of around 30 and 25 per cent respectively
• The US and Europe were the biggest market for outsourcing animation and gaming functions.
• The Indian animation and gaming industry touched US$ 354 million in 2006, a growth of 24 per cent over the previous year
• The sector is expected to touch revenues of US$ 869 million by 2010, at a CAGR of 25 per cent over the 2006-2010 period
• As of now, there are around 300 animation companies in India, employing around 12,000 professionals and 3,000 freelancers
• Despite the existing focus on exports, the animation and gaming companies are now focusing on the high growth domestic market
• The Indian gaming industry touched around US$ 48 million in 2006 and was expected to touch US$ 424 million by 2010. Currently, the mobile and console gaming market account for almost 77 per cent of the total gaming market in India.

The potential: According to the NASSCOM study, despite its ever-growing size, the Indian animation and gaming
industry will account for less than two per cent of the worldwide market in 2010. Clearly, this is just the tip of the ice-berg. The immense untapped opportunity that lies beneath, needs to be addressed by Indian vendors.
The challenge: The NASSCOM study shows that adequate manpower will remain one of the biggest challenges
facing the industry going forward. A significant shortfall is expected in the number of skilled animation and gaming professionals being churned out by the market and the actual industry requirement. The demand-supply gap meanwhile is being spurred by factors such as a lack of creative/gaming and animation culture, lack of awareness
about the employment potential of this industry and the absence of reputed training institutes to help students build necessary skill sets.
The manpower shortage: The animation industry employed around 16,500 professionals in 2006 and the
number is expected to go up to 26,000, at a CAGR of 14-15 per cent. Although the forecast growth is impressive,it falls short of the potential growth that the industry can achieve. The gaming sector too is facing the same issue.
Currently, there are nearly 150 gaming companies, employing around 2,500 people. This number is estimated to rise to 13,000 by 2010 (at a CAGR of over 50 per cent). While industry revenues are expected to grow ten-fold and touch US$ 424 million, it is still lower than the estimated potential of US$ 732 million that the gaming industry can achieve by 2010.
The animation gaming industry has the potential to generate approximately 34,000 jobs by 2010. However, the number of professionals joining this sector will be lower than this figure. This shortfall will be a result of factors such
as lack of proper training institutes, lack of trainers, awareness about the industry, accredited courses.
Furthermore, NASSCOM also expects there to be a gap in the capabilities of students coming out of the country’s training institutes and the needs of the industry. The training institutes themselves are not geared up in terms of infrastructure or faculty to provide high quality learning to students. Some institutes have set up branches across the country, which are not well equipped with global-class infrastructure or capable faculty. Moreover, a number of them are offering short duration programmes – basically three and six month courses – which do not produce high quality students.
The skills required for animation: The animation industry requires professionals who are equipped with both technical and soft skills.
On the technical side, potential career seekers for the animation industry need programming expertise, logical and analytical ability, understanding and application of the sciences such as Physics and Maths. The technical skills enable professionals to understand the logic behind creation of a good animation and facilitate the development of creative content. The analytical ability and application of science facilitates the creation of quality animation from the base structure and drawings.
On the soft skills side, animation professionals need knowledge of art and art application, communication skills, interpersonal skills and story telling. The soft skills help professionals to think creatively and develop animation
keeping in view the target audience and its aesthetics.
The skills required for gaming: The gaming industry needs creative, experienced people, particularly for the
task of concept development. Often, gaming companies hire consultants from abroad and creative directors from advertising/film industry for assistance.
For the pre-production stage, the gaming sector needs lead engineers, artists and animators. Programmers, meanwhile are needed for the production stage, where the skills required depend on the platform in use. The skills needed are essentially the know-how of the tools used for game programming.
The availability of relevant courses: While, there is an overall shortage of good training institutes catering to
the gaming and animation market, the industry has witnessed some changes over the last few years in the area of quality education for this sector. Institutes such as Whistling Woods International Ltd. (Mumbai), in collaboration with the Seneca College (Canada) are offering the latest courses in animation production and development. Yet
another institute is ZICA, which has a student exchange programme with IIT (Kanpur) and enables students to gain experience of new technology and production processes.
Animation and gaming education is also available from certain studios, who have set up their own captive training institutes in order to regularise the supply of talent professionals. Examples of such initiatives are Takshaa Training Institute (set up by Ittina Studios), the Graphiti School of Animation by Graphiti Multimedia, among others.

PS: The above article is copied from the NASSCOM IT industry Communique for the Academia. These are not my words but words of renowned NASSCOM members and a result of their research. My aim in writing this on blog was to let people know about it and for the people who don't believe me as I have been saying this since the past one and a half year. Thats all.

Kanpur, A Driver's Paradise !

Before I joined college once my uncle came to India. I drove him a short distance, I guess a couple of kilometers only and as soon as we reached home he muttered " Kanpur me jo drive karle wo puri duniya me kahi bhi kar sakta hai" (whoever can drive in kanpur can drive anywhere in the world). Then I didn't understand the value of his words primarily because I hadn't driven anywhere else. But ever since I have come from Ghaziabad its been like he was absolutely correct. The traffic here is like ..... need to search the dictionary for some good words.

I don't feel like taking the car anymore. It's like you take the same amount of time to travel as you are travelling in a cycle rickshaw. And on top of it the biggest thing in my mind is that the car doesn't get any new dent, because I always get a scolding from mom that I drive fast, my only saving point is that I have never met with an accident (touch-wood as they say).
Once you get on the road, it seems like there is a race going on between unequal vehicles, a car competing a rickshaw, a cycle competing a car, a truck competing a scooter and don't forget the bikes and the shared tempos, well actually they have no competition at all as they think they are the fastest. Often I hear my father say, " Bike par baith kar to log sochte hain jaise rocke par savaar hain",(people riding a bike think that they are in a rocket). Haha, well actually thats true to the core. That has been the reason that he's never bought me a bike. Though not all drivers are the same but he believes what he sees.

Anyways that's not what I was complaining about. The point is the traffic in this part of the state has gone so awry that now I fear driving hear. As it is my temper is too short and my lack of patience doesn't lemme drive slow.
Well not much to describe about the traffic in this post, will soon be writing a description of my of my pathetic drives around the city...keep looking this place to take a ride around the kanpur city.

The moral of the story, as my Chacha said, " Jo Kanpur me drive kar lega wo duniya me kahi bhi kar lega."

When will we hear the Indian National Anthem

The French grand prix is over. Finn Kimi Raikkonen won it and as the custom goes the Finnish national anthem was played, the winning countries' song being played. I love watching the grand prix and had always dreamt of driving an F1 car, though I can never do it I know. But today I thought why hasn't an Indian won it till date? Narain Karthikeyan being the only one to have ever driven an F1 car, never had a podium finish though.
There are many things which matter and because of which an Indian has never been up there but sooner or later there will be someone who will be standing on the podium and the Indian flag up there. I just hope that if I will have enough money then maybe my kids can fulfill my dream someday.....definite that I will give full support to them.....Haha..just a wild thought. Anyways all the best to the young Indian drivers. We will definitely see the Indian flag up there and the Jana Gana Mana being played.

Its not in the hard drive honey!!!

Its time to start taking things seriously. Ever since I started using Linux I have been free from the tension of virus' . I don't know whether it was a boon or a bane. But today I have realized one thing and that’s whether there exist virus or not, you should always keep a backup of your data.
Its been sometime when I was thinking that I will burn a dvd of my software and upload all my photos on my flickr account but as always been lazy with that and as a result of which today I stand helpless after erasing my 80gb of data and having the other 40gb in an infected hard disk which I don’t know whether I will be able to save or not.

Anyways people always learn from their mistakes and that’s I am doing it now. Making a restore point in my Winduhs XP and as well as keeping a backup of my software though on a cd only.
The other thing I’ve learnt is not to praise Microsoft again. A day before Dhiraj asked me which OS are you using and I replied emphatically “ East or west windows is the best.” And the next day itself my system crashed…………can you believe it. First time ever in a two years time my system crashed. Huh. All my collection gone in a second, even making a backup on a friend’s hard disk could not save it. Now people need to search a different system for a song’s collection to be played on a party. People need to settle for ….. life without an ftp server and download the software from the net and cant even remember what all. Seems like a new day has come and I will have to start all over again once I reach hostel back

Hope friends will help me out when I reach there……that’s life.
In the end lesson for the day is “ start taking things seriously and never say that line again……. Its all in the hard drive “.

Should there be a uniform education board?

Education for all is what our government plans and that’s what our president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam dreams of. All Indians are equal and "No discrimination shall be made on the basis of caste, creed, colour and sex". This is what Indian constitution states. Well if we combine the above two statements then it means that if all the individuals should be educated then the education should be the same for all of them. And if this is to be followed then there should be a governing body which takes care of this. That means that yes there should be a uniform education board which should take care of the education system in the entire country.

Up to the school level we have different boards like the I.C.S.E./I.S.C. C.B.S.E. and State boards. Students study in various boards and though they study almost the same course, yet two equipotent students may get different marks when the board result comes up. At that point of time no one notices this but sometime later when the student joins a college and the class XII percentages come into consideration, especially for admission, then no one cares for the board. A very common example of this is when a placement drive is conducted by some company in a college and there is a minimum cutoff percentage which includes marks secured in the boards as well. Its then when a lot of state board students suffer because of securing fewer marks as compared to the CBSE or ICSE students. Who is to be blamed for the loss of the students? The board boasts that it is difficult to score in their exam but the bottom line is that in the long run it’s the students who suffer.

If a uniform board is set up which handles all the educational activities in the entire country then this problem can be eradicated. This problem is even there at the college level. Though the internal matters of a college or university may not be touched but the examination can certainly be taken care of so that the similar condition of the percentage does not creep up when admission for further studies comes up.

A uniform board can also help in increasing the interaction between the students and hence set a platform where knowledge sharing becomes easy. The board can organize separate activities and competitions for schools and colleges in which all institutes may participate thus setting a stage for students round the country to interact and perform. Common interactive websites and forums can help students in getting information regarding various activities that the board may conduct and getting news about new developments (both technical and non technical) taking place in and outside the country.

So, summing it all we can say that a uniform education board will definitely be a fruitful option, raising standards of the students, the institutes’ and the level of education, information and awareness in the country.

5 months on..........ths same old story

Five months back I wrote something against UPTU which read like " Asia's largest technical University ......" and then followed up within a couple of days seeing the PPL exam question paper that read something like, " Did the VC ..... ". In the latter topic I had mentioned I was impressed with the standards of the question paper and if this was to be maintained then I will have to study throughout the sem in order to secure some good marks. When a friend read that post, he said, " Are you serious about studying throughout? " At that time I said I was very serious.....
Its been five months since that day....the next semester exams has come, due for a finish in a week and I find myself in the same situation again....not studied again and now I recall that posting of mine. HUH ! Haven't studied again and again impressed with the UPTU standards after the computer networks exam paper.
If I don't pass then that is solely my responsibilty as I didn't study but what made me more dejected that I didn't know the practical questions which I expect myself to be knowing. Really sad on my part. I was really happy to see practical questions and even more happy when a couple of friends told me that these things were not there in book, don't know but that makes me really happy. What to say now...... I am really heading downwards with no study and no knowledge....too bad on ly part.Hope I recover soon or I should say " Get well soon Abhinav".

Oops I did it again !

Why me only?? Thats was the question I asked dada yesterday even before I had been through my scrapbook. While I was figuring out with dada what I should do to prove that I was not the culprit, I thought of showing him what Ms.P had to say regarding the poll. The speed of net had as usual been the speed of light and so before I could see my scrapbook my new Motorola W220 rang, the second only call on my phone, had Piyush telling me that something's gone wrong. I thought there must have been wild reactions regarding the poll only. I had not sensed danger by then but when I saw my scrapbook I knew I was screwed, that too unneccessarily. EIGHT new scraps! At first instance I did not understand anything. All I saw was Ms.A(1), Ms.B(2), Ms.C(5) having threatened me. (The number in brackets denote the number of scraps they made) The next step was to find out who this Ms.B was (as it was the first time I had any scrap from her), Ms.A being already known to me and Ms.C having given quite a detalied introduction of her apart from her dad's intro too.
I closed my eyes and lied down as I knew something was coming to me and I had no clue as to how I was going to face this. At first I thought to delete the community straighaway and then my profile too. But was I acting intelligently?? No, as I feel now. Well, by now I had changed my mind and asking for pardon had been out from the brain. My new mobile had been ringing by now every second, though for the wrong reasons only. I lied to someone whom I didnt't want to, regarding the incident and being unknown of everything. Took those steps without thinking anything and for the sole purpose of buying TIME. That act of mine saved me from blushes atleast at that moment.
Later after thinking of something so that I could defy everything the next day, we took some technically sound steps, though that was very dangerous, but to keep options open I had to do that and play safe. Anyways after all this I returned to my hostel and was given the same welcome which I got when I came back from IPEC after getting through the iGate process. I was surrounded by all hostelers and a flurry of questions were fired on me. Best thing was that I wasn't serious, atleast pretending not to be. I spent some time with everybody and then came back to my room. Had a chat with the guy to whom I had lied before. Then things cooled down for me as he assured me that I was safe and that people had understood the technical details. I don't know whether they understood whether I wasn't the culprit but all I knew was that my name would not be there at the notice board, for the first time for wrong reasons and for which I heaved a HUUUGE sigh of relief.
A mehfil in my room after that till around 3 a.m. after which we went to our best place to remove stress i.e. our dhabas, sapna this time as upadhyay ji has put his shutter down since a past few days. Came back and slept at around 5.30 in the morning, ending quite an eventful day of my life.

A poll, NOT created by me. An act in which every hosteler was an active participant, 150 guyz logged on to the community at the same time for the first time, 7 new requests for the community in a single day (the highest ever), community being active for every second till the poll was removed. Between all this, I buy a new mobile, have some chinese stuff, enjoy with friends, and before I have the last piece of the lemonade the party ends for me with a message. End results are only to say that I am no more. No support for me in future, friends lost in the process, I am the most hated guy in the girls hostel, be it batchmates, seniors or juniors and all I can say is that. " खाया पिया कुछ नही , ग्लास तोड़ा १२ अाना ".

Did I deserve to be where I am today? Thinking about everything all the time, people having friends in the GH, some of whom voted too, looking in my eyes with revenge. Mocking me around and pointing out fingers on me. The new bad guy of college. Creating waves around like anything.

I don't rue that I was the part of it, I don't rue that people call me bad guy, I don't rue that they hate me but all I rue is that people along with FRIENDS never had faith in me. Atleast those who are friends, infact I should use the word "WERE" now, didn't even bother to ask me once that what was the truth. They believed what others said and what they saw without even applying their brains. They would have first taken care of the technicalities what they were talking of, forget the belief they had in me, if they ever had.

Much more to say but not to explain, I think this topic can make me write some more pages if I don't stop now. All I get to learn from this episode is the answer to "why it happens with me only". I have to build more faith among my (so called) friends towards me by doing a lot unneccessary talking, which since I think is against my nature being a techie and being a guy who has lot to learn and see much more in life and face even greater difficult circumstances...

At the end of the episode, though it still HAUNTS me each and every second, all I can say is : "May life be fair to me next time".

We always have a choice !

Yesterday we went to watch Spiderman-3, the most awaited movie of this year I guess, atleast for me if not for others. After a great Spidey2 experience I just couldn't wait for the next in the series. A year and a half ago I guess was when the prequel was released.
Last time the special effects had been colossal and this time they were expected to be much better. This thought was more than enough that propelled my thought of watching it first day on the really big screen....at the IMAX theatre. Though we had to shell out a few extra bucks than we usually do but the money was worth the experience.
The fights were much more larger than life, specially the first one between Goblin and Spidey....boy it was terrific I should say. Then the next best scene in my view was when Sandman rose for the first time, the way the sand moved was I should say the best ever animation I have ever seen. It looked umimaginely realistic. Infact the most of the scenes invoving sandman were far too good. It must have taken a hell lot of time for producing such sequences.....like the transformation from sandman to a human and vice versa. Terrific I can say.
Well that was all the techie stuff I saw in the movie, what the movie had more was the EQ. A guess it was too much as far as an action-superhero kinda movie is concerned. Even King Kong had an emotional ending and now this one. Definitely the episodes containng the appreciation of spiderman as the hero of the town had generated feelings from within but the romantic sequences hardly stretched a muscle in your body. Yeah a few comedy shots were put in to move your cheek bones but a couple of them even had been a disaster in terms of timing.
All in all a good movie to watch, thugh one might not enjoy it on the small screen and definitely not if you watch the hindi dubbed version, people who've made that mistake already, I really feel sorry for them. I've even heard this part had a much higher budget than the prequels but this looses out in terms of movie experience. No doubt spidey2 was much better. It seems that its only the second part that gains the best success, be it Matrix, MI:2, or this movie.
One last thing that I would like to share is that I've always felt every movie teaches you a lesson and thats what even this movie did. Yes somehow I managed to find that too. I won't describe that how when and what about that, but leave it for you to explore, htink and most importantly impement in your own lives. It says in one line of Peter Parker... " WE ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE ".

An awesome experience

Last weekend I had been to the Akshardham Temple in Delhi. The experience was totally marvellous. I had mad a visit there previously too and appreciated the carvings and the immaculous effort the workers had put in but what I saw this time was much more than I could have ever imagined. Being a sort of tech guy I was most inspired by the amount of technology they have used in the exhibition. Awesome seems to be a small word for it. The statues were so realistic already but when I saw that they had their eyes blinking my head went round and round. The people there have even used robotics and the short skits are no katputli show but seems like real kids being present there.
Other thing that shook my head was the amount of knowledge they gave about India's past. Although one can very easily say that a temple does need to do all this but when you will see it for yourself then ....... Also impressive was the way we took that journey of India's past. Going through India's history and getting to know what the common people don't know and in that fashion, I think was no doubt the best India has uptil now. Gaining knowledge in a short span of 15 minutes that too while in a boat was the best way to explain. We sat inside and an audio clip was played, which has been timed perfectly to the surroundings as the boat moves. The surroundings have all been made of sculptures and all look so real that you can't stop admiring the things.
Though there was much more to gain information from including a movie which spanned more than half an hour but that could not keep me awake so no points to that.
Well, though the temple does not require any tickets etc, the show needs 125 rupees to be shelled out from the pockets, but definitely worth it.
The carvings etc was too good and when I came to know that it took five long years to construct the temple then I can easily believe that. The only thing I can't imagine is the amount of money they have put in....can't even dream of it.
All in all a magnificent experience and a must go place even if you don't go to temples like me.

FInally me true !

Its been quite a long time and I cant even figure out what class I was in. Maybe in class 5 or 6 i.e. 1995 or 96 I guess. I used to go in a shared tempo (with all school people) to school in Kanpur. I was highly obssessed with cricket at that time and we used to talk a lot anout cricket during our return journey to home and today when I saw the neewspaper I suddenly recall that day I am talking about.
We had a harcore Saching Tendulkar fan between us. She was 2 years senior to me and was listening to our talks, the usual cricket stuff. I made a statement that day which put me into a debate that day with my senior. " Sachin might be out of the team one day", I said. And to this she got into a slight argument that this could never happen until he retires himself. In answer to her I only remember one sentence of mine, " You can never predict the future, and this might be true one day, then we'll talk."
As India made an early exit from the World Cup Sachin's call for retirement was made not by him but by the people of India. And though he hadn't expressed any such feelings, the team for the Bangladesh tour made, my statement(though quite old) is a true statement today. I don't know where my dear senior is today but I all can say is that the answer which I gave to her is what the wold is today,"You can never predict the future". Message delivered !

Finally RKGLUG moves

The second RKGLUG meet held today........finally. After a long gap of around 6 months we finally had a meet. Starting from a faculty workshop we ended up conducting a student workshop. It was a nice experiemce, much better than the previous meet (a seminar) ofcourse. Last time our part was good but the response hadn't been so good. This time things figured out to be the opposite way. Our presentation wasn't that good but the response we got has been superb especially from girls. Frankly speaking I never expected such a response.
It seems Jagriti has really turned things around. Students are thinking to be more technical now. Feels great to see everybody getting in now. It has put a new zeal into me, to work again for the society and to share knowledge.
Feels great from within and even puts up more pressure on me. But I guess thats what I like and somehow this will help me in the near future.Khair the workshop will change things and perceptions all over our college and thats what I love..... changing habits, thinking and being diffferent. Lets hope this works from now on.

2nd Success in 3 days

Today the RKGLUG had its 3rd success, making a mark at the CEMCA, New Delhi, by successfully installing Linux on 2 systems and getting an invitation for more installations at their centre. We even earned 2000 rupees in the process, though that was not of much importance for us but it did provide the motivation for doing more such tasks.
This is the second success in 3 days, the first being Jagriti' 07. It has been LUG's sixth event I should say, but only 3rd success, the previous two being the JNU Workshop and the Installfest at RKGIT respectively. Though all of us had been unable to be at all three places but there has been an active participation at all places.
Gaurav sir's seeds are growing now. There will be more techies in the near future in RKGIT and I see many things coming en route to fame for our college. Let's pray for our success.

Finally Jagriti' 07 is a success !

6 months of talking and 3 months of labour finally resulted in some fruitful success. 30th of July was when Shashank put in that first post on orkut and since then we have put in everything be it in any form. Good timing for everything along with some really good marketing in the last stages helped in pull some real crowd. I won't go for describing the event as that will fill pages. All I want to say is that everyone's hard work paid in the end and made Jagriti a success.

Who is to be blamed?

Yesterday I was travelling on an unregistered bike in Delhi. Though I knew it was too risky but the job was worth the risk. Finally we got caught on our return journey.
As always we thought that putting in our license was not relevant so we offered the policeman, money. After some denials he too kept it and we escaped a rupees thousand fine. We moved ahead happily and didn't turn back.
But very soon I had the thought process again taking place! Were we right in bribing him ? I mean obviously it was illegal but what else could we do? We took a bike with no papers at our own risk, because no other bike was available in the hostel. Then, we went for fest work and not our personal work. We students how can we pay so much fine? Especially those who are from different places? This is what first view says where I justify myself.
Now second view says that I am one of those people who are spreading corruption in my country. If I bribe then why shouldn't others do? And then why shouldn't they take? All in all corruption from the grassroot level! And so if politicians commit scams we should not complain ! Isn't it?
Now I am not sure what the correct way is all I know is that I committed some crime and one of those who spread corruption in my country...

60 years of freedom or 100 more years of Slavery?

Last night it was the 26th of January, the Indian Republic Day. Its a national holiday and as far as I knew, no company, school, office, college or any other institution or organisation (profit or non profit) in the country works on this day. But my thoughts have changed because of what happened yesterday. I was having an online chat with one of my friends and was shocked to know that he was in office at 10 pm. I straightaway popped the question "Why are you working today?"
If the shock prompted me to ask the question, his answer made me feel dejected. He said,"I am a foreign worker".
As India enters its 58th year of republic and is just 6 months away from 60 years of freedom my question remains "Are we really an independent country?" The British might have left the country 60 years ago and India got its first president in 1950 but the people are still under slavery.
Every individual in this country is independent but do they feel so?
His answer suggested to me that most of us are still not free. They are under the slavery of the countries which get their work done through Indian Labourers. Had they been free they would be working as they wish and celebrating our festivals and not of other countries. The IT industry is booming and will continue to boom but with these foreign companies rising their presence in India, the youth is going where the money is and thus going in for slavery of those nations.
The young generation today is trying to learn foreign languages, be it English, French or German but do they know their national language? They say it's necessary for the development of the nation? Didn't the Japanese or the Russian or Chinese or any other nation develop without learning or adopting any foreign language. Those who have been to these countries had great problems in communicating, not because they didn't know their language but because no one was willing to speak English, even though they knew it. Why don't we take a lesson from them? Who is to be blamed for this? Sam Pitroda says english should be taught from class 1 itself and what about Hindi Mr.Sam?
Is science a slave of the language? Will its understanding be affected if we study it in Hindi?
Microsoft is working in institutes to make a compiler in Bhojpuri! How many of us know that? The biggest software firm of the world is making softwares in our languages and we are running after foreign languages. If more than 50% of the nation does not know the English language then whats the use of making developments in English? How will the common man know the technology? India produces lakhs of engineers every year. Instead of giving employment to the nation they are running after foreign languages, foreign companies to absorb them. The other nations are not ruling us but we are running to be their slaves. When will this end?
I have put up a hundred questions but who will answer them I don't know. Well, I don't care who answers them, all I wish is that they should be answered as soon as possible so that we don't remain slaves but become masters instead.

Do i know the real India?

Today is 26th of January '07, the 58th year of republic. Its been some time that I have been thinking about the nation, meaning I have become patriotic a bit. The India Poised campaign by the TOI seems so catch my attention everytime and makes me feel interested. I downloaded the videos and even sent them to many friends and have even been reading articles ever since the campaign was launched. Really good articles if you are interested.
Its been some days that we have been working almost the entire day for the fest preparations and yesterday I realized that apart from getting experience of working with the faculty and management there are a couple more completely different things that I have realized. Though both have no relation between them but both are a result of spending time with Pandey sir.
Sometime ago I had written an article on him what I write today is also because of him. The two things I was talking about have a deep significance. First thing is that I have started getting a feeling that I do not know India. I dont know the culture, the people and many things about our country that we should know. I have no knowledge of the different tribes in India, their culture and everything about them. Earlier when I went to sir with Gurpreet, Dhiraj or Gaurav sir and he talked of the villages and other rural people I was never ashamed of myself but now when I go with Shashank and he starts the same talks, Shashank gets involved in talks with him and I am a mere spectator or a good listener only. It has been getting in my mind that I don't my own nation!! Is that my fault? A bit yes and a bit no. No, because I have never been to villages or had any family connection with them. Yes, because I feel I was never even interested in listening to people who have been from such places. Anyways whatever has happened is past but I wish to learn all about India from now, rural or urban. Hope I succeed..
The other thing I felt is that staying in a place like RKGIT has made me feel complacent about myself. I feel that I am doing enough!!! But whenever I meet Pandey sir I always feel there's so much to do. So much to learn, so much to study, so much to explore and last but the most important what have I been for myself? I have many plans when I have money but am I doing anything that will make my resources so strong that I face no hurdles while executing my plans?? At present my answer is no but the thought is getting into me and sooner or later I have to start. As is said "well begun is half done" and "It's good to start early". Hope I succeed in that too. Amen!
